Vatican Plaza

November 20, 2007

As we walked down the left side of Via delle Conciliazione, checking out the stores along the way, Vatican plaza continued to grow in size. I mentioned on the first page about the Coliseum and how it is enormous. This is no different. There is a recurring pattern in Rome of buildings, monuments, fountains, and so on being very large. They give a whole new meaning to the word, "grand."

The pictures on this page show you how I first experienced Vatican Plaza. What you see here is what I first saw with my eyes. I was already awestruck
by the time I took the above picture. It took a while just to absorb the plaza. The architecture, the buildings, the statues are so detailed, and breath taking, this is not a moment to rush.

Even though I have not counted them, it is said there are 140 statues going around the top rim of Vatican Plaza.

There is Virtual Reality Panoramic picture available of what it is like to stand in the plaza.
