Walking to Jonathan's Apartment

November 18, 2007

Little did I know by simply walking from the Hotel to Jonathan's apartment that it would provide a wealth of information and have some monuments along the way. By walking throughout Rome, you not only see the sights, you acquire a good feeling of how the people of Rome live. It also gave us a taste of what was to come in terms of steepness (hills and steps). You are going to receive a taste of Rome on these pages.

Come. Take a walk with me and see what I saw on my first major walk in Rome. That is, if you don't count the orientation walk a couple blocks from the hotel to Via Carini.

Leaving from the hotel, we had to follow the wall that is across from it and has a green park on the other side.

Looking to our left, that's one long wall.

It took about 5 minutes of walking along this wall...
(A yellow path shows the way)

...until we were at the American University in Rome. No, there wasn't any way for us to cut directly through the park.

This is the last part of the wall before the double arches. In fact, the yellow pole is dissecting one of the two arches. The small tree is blocking the other arch. When walking, we are either beside the wall, or on the corner in the middle of the picture. On the right side of the picture, there are two yellow signs. Those are bus stops. Quite a few bus routes come by here. Bus 44 is one we used a few times.

We walked through the double arches and looked back at them. The American University in Rome will be on the right.

Turning right from the above picture, we see the American University and begin to walk the hills.
No, we are not walking down hill. We are going up hill - on the left where the white car is parked.
